With the Bee-Happy Day program numbers growing, organization leaders have opted to free up-close quarters by taking students on more adventures beyond their facility. Their most recent outing was a tour of the Kaufman County Pet Adoption Center on May 3. Seven Bee-Happy busy bees were given a private tour of the facility, where they were able to interact with cats, dogs, and rabbits. While their visit was both a source of fun and educational, Director Shelley Brookins was visiting for a larger purpose. Brookins revealed that due to the growing numbers in their program, these outings help relieve their campus of crowding. Larger than this factor, Brookins shared that Bee-Happy is looking to get their students involved in volunteer opportunities around Kaufman County. “The community does so much for us, and we believe it’s important to give back to that same community,” shared Brookins. The Bee-Happy Day program is currently setting up student volunteer opportunities at both the Kaufman County Pet Adoption Center and The Center in Kaufman. Bee-Happy Day program is a non-profit, affordable, faith-based program that assists adults with developmental disabilities in reaching their potential through hands on activities that challenge and empower them.
